Aloe Vera Oil Extract: Aloe Vera Oil Extract may be used in most oil based products or used in the oil phase of formulations for cosmetics, toiletries or OTC pharmaceutical preparations. Some uses: lip balms & lipsticks, oral ointments, sun care and after sun products, hand & body lotions, hair conditioners, facial moisturizers, shaving/depilatory preparations, bath oils, rubs & liniments, ointments, first aid creams, anti-acne preparations, topical analgesics.

Percentage to use: If you are using Aloe Vera Oil Extract in a product formulation primarily to have it appear on the label, then concerns about the percentage to use (say below 1%) are really immaterial. However, if you want the product to perform better because of the presence of the Aloe Vera Oil Extract, then try using 5% or more. Storage: Store at or slightly below room temperature, away from light.

Almond (Sweet) Prunus amygdalus, P. dulcis: Sweet almond oil is obtained from the nut of the tree, which is native to Asia and the Mediterranean.
This oil is a favorite carrier oil for essential oil aromatherapy blends, although it?s often used by itself for moisturizing skin. The oil has no scent and is a great nutrient for softening and conditioning the skin. It’s been known to be especially suitable for eczema, itchy, dry and inflamed skin.
Since it contains glucosides, vitamins and minerals, it makes a fabulous massage oil. Sweet almond oil is widely used in lotions, lotion bars, balms and soap; it saponifies easily and produces a mild soap with very good lather. This oil can be used as a large percentage of the fats or as an oil added at trace. It?s recommended that you add just one ounce per pound of fats to the soap batch. Some users find that this oil goes rancid quickly, others feel they have no problem with the shelf life of almond oil.
Sweet almonds should be stored in a cool place or refrigerated.
The post Sweet Almond Oil – 4oz first appeared on Valley Blossoms.

Sunflower Oil (high-oleic, expeller pressed, Helianthus annuus): is very high in oleic (monounsaturated) acid and oil is usually defined as having a minimum 80 percent oleic acid. Sunflower oil has a light texture and is pleasant to use. It contains vitamins A, C, D, and E, a high linoleic acid content, and few saturated fatty acids. This oil is easily absorbed and can be used on all skin types.
Its high vitamin E content makes it especially helpful for delicate and dry skin. It has a protective effect on the skin and is healing when applied to leg ulcers, bruises and skin diseases. Many soapmakers use sunflower oil as a less expensive alternative to olive oil. When using sunflower oil in soapmaking, be sure to include other more saturated fats and oils for quicker saponification and, in the case of superfatted soap, a longer shelf life. Limit sunflower oil to 10-15% of your total fats and oils.
The post Sunflower Oil – 4oz first appeared on Valley Blossoms.

Wheat Germ Oil (unrefined) is expeller pressed without the use of chemical solvents. This oil is dark yellow to orange in color and has the characteristic strong odor which unrefined oils usually offer. Wheat Germ oil is rich in octacosanol and is also rich in naturally occurring antioxidants including vitamin E and beta carotene as well as containing naturally-occurring phosphatides and phytosterols.
It has excellent skin care properties due to its good spread-ability. May be used in cosmetics, toiletries, soaps, OTC pharmaceuticals, sun care and nutraceuticals to enhance cellular health. Suggested Use Levels: Lotions & Creams: 5-15% , Balms: 5-10%, Bar Soaps: 5-10%, Hair Conditioners: 5-8%. SAP value: 180-200.

Hazelnuts yield a pale amber oil with a pleasant aroma. Its composition is similar to almond oil for which it is often substituted. This is the only fixed nut oil with an astringent quality, making it beneficial for use on oily skin. It absorbs quickly and is useful as a base for oily or acne-prone skins. It may be useful against thread veins. May be used full strength or in 10%-15% dilution. Only two fatty acids account for 90% of its fatty-acid content and both of these are unsaturated. With nearly 80% oleic acid and 10% linoleic acid, hazelnut oil is one of the most highly unsaturated vegetable oils.
The post Hazelnut Oil – 4oz first appeared on Valley Blossoms.

Shea Butter (Butyrospermum parkii) is obtained by cold pressing of the fruits (seeds) of the karit tree followed by a full refining process. During the pressing of the butter, a liquid fraction appears as Shea oil which offers an exceptional skin feel.
Shea is well known to assist cutaneous dryness, dermatitis and dermatoses, eczema, solar erythema and burns.

Suggested uses:

Use from 3% to 20% in creams and lotions, soaps and balms, or 100% pure as a moisturizing serum or massage oil.

Use it in lip balms, body butters, soap and other toiletries where you might prefer a liquid oil rather than solid shea butter. This oil can be used straight as a massage oil or can become part of a massage oil blend.
The post Shea Oil – 3.7oz first appeared on Valley Blossoms.

Sesame seed oil (Sesamum indicum). This oil is rich in vitamins and minerals. Its vitamin E content gives the oil excellent stability. Some of its recommended uses are for psoriasis, eczema, arthritis, and as a skin softener. It?s an oil which is gaining a lot of popularity as a tanning oil.
Recommendations are for this oil to be used as a base or in a 10%-15% dilution. It?s beneficial for rheumatic and skin conditions, psoriasis, dry eczema and broken veins. Sesame seed oil, like avocado oil and shea butter, contains a high percentage of unsaponifiables (those parts of fats and oils that do not react with sodium hydroxide to form soap and remain in the final bars as conditioning plant nutrients).
This is a very stable oil due to its natural antioxidant system, it is almost odorless with a clear, pale yellow color which may vary from batch to batch. Medicinal uses: The seeds are helpful in cases of constipation and, when ground up with water, can be used to treat hemorrhoids. Internal use of sesame seed oil is said to improve the blood platelet count and combat anemia. The oil is soothing to the digestive tract (high in calcium, not acid forming) and is a mild laxative.
Sesame seed oil is used in creams and soaps for its moisturizing qualities. Some subscribe to the theory that three of its unsaponifiable substances; sesamolin, sesame and sesamol, have powerful antioxidant properties that resist rancidity. With high percentages of oleic and linoleic fatty acids, a sesame seed oil soap formula should incorporate coconut oil and palm oil for a quicker saponification and a harder bar.
The post Sesame Seed Oil – 4oz first appeared on Valley Blossoms.

Safflower oil is an unsaturated oil which is a pale to rusty yellow in color with a makeup similar to that of sunflower oil. The oil is cold pressed from the seeds. Its odor is bland with little odor.
Use of safflower oil aids prevention of chronic degenerative diseases such as arteriosclerosis, arthritis and coronary thrombosis. It prevents cholesterol from hardening and normalizes its metabolism. Both the seeds and the oil are beneficial to diabetics or those suffering from angina and circulatory problems.
The oil is also helpful in cases of bronchial asthma and nephrosis. Safflower is reputed to have diuretic properties and safflower tea promotes sweating. For external use, it is recommended for eczema and rough skin.
The post Safflower Oil – 4oz first appeared on Valley Blossoms.

Rice Bran Oil is rich in vitamin E complex, tocopherols and tocotrienols, a unique antioxidant known as gamma oryzanol, high quantities of phytosterols, polyphenols and squalene. Because of these antioxidants, this oil has a very good shelf life compared to other vegetable oils.
Gamma-oryzanol is effective in absorbing ultraviolet light, thereby inhibiting a number of adverse effects attributed to exposure to sunlight. A number of sunscreen formulations incorporating oryzanol have been developed and marketed for human use. The use of rice bran oil should be considered in formulations for the protection of animal coats; this oil is safe for internal consumption.
This oil is known to be used for dry and flaky skin and adds body and luster to hair.
The post Rice Bran Oil – 4oz first appeared on Valley Blossoms.
